About Us - The Heart Behind BARAKA

THE STORY OF BARAKA

The BARAKA Project is a unique collaboration between operational farming expertise and strategic agricultural development. Nomsa leads the day-to-day operations with deep practical knowledge and on-the-ground leadership. Behind the scenes, much of BARAKA’s Farm’s success is made possible by a strong partnership that extends beyond the fields.

Organic Farming Solutions (OFS) is led by Juergen Suplit, a german business developer with over 30 years of experience in strategic and administrative leadership, known for successfully turning around multiple struggling companies into thriving enterprises. OFS plays a key role in shaping the future of BARAKA Farm - leading operations, administration, and strategic initiatives with expertise and commitment. Together they ensure that BARAKA is both a working farm and a growing model for sustainable impact.

In May 2024, the new vision took root. A farm that wasn’t thriving was reimagined - not just as a business, but as a mission.

We asked:

  • What’s broken in conventional farming?

  • How can we empower people to grow their own food - and their futures?

  • What if a farm could be a classroom, a community hub, a spark?

By August 2024, the pilot project was underway.

Today, we’re building a living example of what’s possible with care, collaboration, and knowledge.

Meet Nomsa - A bridge between science and soil

Her Path: From Student to Changemaker

“When I told my father I was looking for a job after my honors degree, he was dissapointed. He believed i should create jobs - not just take one.”

That moment shaped Nomsa’s path. Rather than choosing comfort or convention, she committed herself to creating opportunity, bridging knowledge gaps, and leading by example.

Between Science and Soil

Through her work on land reform projects during university, Nomsa saw a painful gap:

“Research uncovered valuable knowledge for farmers – but it never reached them. I realized I could be the bridge.”

Fluent in both science and farming, she helps farmers understand and apply what they learn - a key to meeting international standards like Organic Certification and Global GAP.

Her Vision for Farming

“If you do it right, you don’t just farm - you grow wealth, sustainability, and trust.”

For Nomsa, organic farming means:

Healthy Food that cares for people

Protecting and enriching the soil

Seasonal, climate-aware food systems

Reuse, recycle, and reduce - every day

Her Vision

“I want to show farmers around me that it’s possible - to farm sustainably, meet global standards, access strong markets, and create jobs. If you can do it, they can too.”

Together, Nomsa believes, it’s possible to grow not just crops - but shared wealth, community, and a better future.

Empowering the next Generation of Farmers

At BARAKA, we believe in more than just growing crops – we believe in growing people.

Our 18-month training program offers selected students the opportunity to learn, lead, and launch their own path in organic farming. Today, 12 students are living and learning on the farm, actively participating in every stage of production:

Each student completes the full cycle – from soil to sales.

They don’t just leave with a certificate. They leave with confidence, skills, and the experience to start something of their own.

Throughout the program, we support them with:

Educational films and training content

Hands-on mentorship from our farmers

Practical knowledge in soil health, composting & markets

Our goal?

To build a generation of very prosperous independent farmers who not only feed themselves – but also uplift their communities.
